I love making paintings like this one. The Angel of gratitude is a large folk art painting on an old wood door. I made one piece last year for a show- and I ended up making about six more because so many customers wanted one. Now I have neighbors giving me their old doors and planks of old wood. Painting on old wood adds such a rich vibrant color and texture to the piece. For awhile I thought I would never paint on canvas again. There is so much old wood, old dressers, old tables and doors- all needing to be saved from the dumpster or burn pile. So in a way my folk art paintings on old stuff is like recycling. I will be adding a few other folk art paintings I have made this week on my blog. You can always check out my shop www.mermaidmessenger.etsy.com to see more, Cheers

What is the rule on how many times you can rewarm a cup of coffee?
What is the rule on how many times you can rewarm a cup of coffee?, originally uploaded by Art of Dee.
I never really drink coffee- I just spend the morning trying to find
my cup and then it's cold so I rewarm it about 10 times. Nice mug huh?
I made it awhile ago - looks like seaweed- very fitting for a folk art
mermaid artist.

The ABUNDANCE Angel by Art of Dee
Oh I really like this painting!!! I am not sure where the idea came from. I had an old piece of oak wood. I started playing around with an angel design.... The rest just flowed with ease. Maybe I was in need of a bit of ABUNDANCE in my own life- so I thought I would paint it. The oil colors are so very vibrant. Its such a stunning piece- a small size painting that really packs a BIG visual punch. I love it. I like it so much I may do some furniture and a few more wood pieces.

Tiny Little Mermaid ACEO paintings now on eBay
Up for auction on eBay are my latest little creations. Most often I like to paint LARGE- I mean really big- a small wall works well for me. When painting large I can capture plenty of details. Still paintings that are very large take weeks to produce, cost $1000s and not everyone has wall space for the very large pieces. So I decided to see what was selling well on eBay. It does seem that there are a number of collectors who want and will pay about $100 for small trading card size paintings. ACEO stands for Art Cards Editions and Originals. They are always 2.5 by 3.5 inches. I bought myself a better pair of close up reading glasses and gave it a try. Here are the first 3 of a series of 9 ACEO original paintings. Its a collection of old world mermaids with positive messages. My Mermaids have been waiting for a chance to speak...After the nine originals have sold I will sell a small limited edition of ACEO prints. Sort of fun painting these little pieces and I have lots and lots of series ideas. Sort of nice to be creating and painting every day- plus inch for inch you get more money for the time spent painting. An ACEO painting a day just might keep the bill collectors away.

Thinking Angel Folk Art Painting ON SALE
Today I am putting my original oil painting "Contemplation" on Ebay. This is a large painting with a poem I wrote painted around the edges. Its time to sell this piece. I will use the profits to stock up on giclee prints and greeting cards of my images for the 2008 holiday season. I am hoping the eBay market will find the perfect customers for this piece. It might make a lovely Christmas gift for someone. And I have a low reserve - so it might make an affordable gift as well.
